So the purpose of the Blog is to help keep in good contact throughout the break and to help keep each other on top of our reading/time with God.
Please, let's try to post at least one thing per week -- you can talk about how your week is going (family, things you did) and how reading has been for you (what you read, what stood out, what questions do you have) or how praying has been (I keep falling asleep, or it's been good, etc).
Yup, pretty simple! Have fun with it and use it as a tool! Also, comment on other people's posts either in your posts or in comments.
This be homechurch away from homechurch :D
Below are the action items for break:
1) Read one of the Gospels in its entirety (I strongly recommend reading John, but feel free to choose any of them). The Gospels consist of the following books in the New Testament: Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John. "Gospel" means "good news."
2) Read 1 Peter (it's only 5 Chapters) 3 times over break: do not read it three times in one week or over two days and think you are done -- please go over the whole book at least once throughout three different weeks so that you can let it soak in. And feel free to read 2 Peter as well if ya want!
3) Memorize a minimum of 3 verses (try doing more, though -- like 6!). 1 Verse HAS to be from the Old Testament and it cannot be from Psalms or Proverbs.
4) Over break, before school stats and LW events start, please write a 2-page reflection about your experience reading/praying. Here are some guiding questions:
- What did you learn about who God it? What did you learn about Jesus?
- How was reading the Bible for you? What did you feel? or think?
- Do you expect to leave changed after reading the Bible? why or why not?
- Where do you think there is doubt in who God is or even in the reality that the Bible presents? (like -- those without Christ are headed to Hell, humans are sinful, Jesus is fully God and fully man, Jesus died for your sins, God listens to your prayers, etc)
5) ***BONUS ACTION ITEM*** I really, really recommend that people read this: Joshua ch 1-10
Cute tool to help people engage with the text they are reading:
Scripture: write down the verses you read (like "John Ch 3:16-17" -- that means "Book of Mark, Chapter 1, verse 4 through 6") and/or write out a verse or two that stuck out to you.
Observations: what happened? what are some details that stick out to you? Why do they stick out? What might be the significance of it?
Application: to you life, life in general, to the human condition, etc
Reflection: What does this say about who God is? What does this say about Jesus? What does this say about sin?
Questions!
**Obviously, feel free to add/subtract from the cute tool thing -- it's just there if you need any structure.
Yup, have fun everyone! I look forward to checking how people are doing!
Look! This is a comment! People should comment on posts and encourage one another or respond! Yay!
